Healthy eating looks different for everyone but has the same goal: We want to nourish our bodies in such a way that supports our unique lifestyles and tastes.
Here are three simple nutrition hacks to match almost every lifestyle.
1. Keep Healthy Eating Simple
Diets are restrictive and therefore unsustainable long-term. The easier your food habits are, the more likely it will become a long-term habit.
Don’t focus on an intense temporary diet. Instead, focus on simple, healthy, tasty meals which you can add to your weekly meal list. Keep healthy snacks in the home and ditch all fried, processed, or sugary foods.
Make the healthy options easily accessible! When we’re stressed, we will take the path of least resistance.
2. Good, Better, Best
It’s hard to eat the best at times, and sometimes hard to do better, but we can all do good. I define good as the 80/20 rule. If we can do good 80% of the time, we are already doing better than 90% of the population.
3. Go Green!
We all know we need to eat our greens, but here are some stats to think about…
2010 study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine estimated that the US vegetable supply would need to increase by 70% almost entirely in dark, leafy greens, orange vegetables and legumes in order for Americans to meet the recommended daily allowances at that time.
2015 CDC report that an average of 9% of adults met the intake recommendations for vegetables. Only an average of 12% of adults met the intake recommendations for fruit.
Nov 17, 2017 study published in CDC’s morbidity and mortality weekly report shows only 1 in 10 adults meet federal recommendations which call for most women to eat 1.5 cups of fruit and 2 cups of vegetables each day.
Not eating proper fruit/vegetables can starve our organs from proper vitamins and minerals they need to perform their functions at optimal levels!
