I’ve struggled with mental health in the past, and I want to share with you the 3 ways I prevent poor mental health from wrecking my life. There are a few simple habits we can do to help us cultivate good mental health. Two of them are Christian techniques and the last one is a natural solution I found which works surprisingly well. And they really do work! I’m talking from experience.

Home Sweet Home

I don’t know about anyone else, but I love being home. “There is no place like home. There is no place like home. There is no place like home.”

Home is therapeutic, familiar, and comforting. Home is necessary.

Both emotionally and psychologically, we all need a literal place that we call home, to stay healthy and balanced. There isn’t a sensation on the planet quite like coming home…I’m sure you’ve experienced it. Your home may not be extraordinary; it may not be exquisite; but it’s yours.

Home is our sanity and our sanctuary. It’s where we can fully be ourselves. If our physical bodies need to go home regularly to stay healthy, what about our souls? If our external bodies need space to let down and just “be”, what about our inner selves?

When was the last time your soul felt “at home”?

The Gospel writer, John says, “I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” God wants our souls to be strong and to prosper. We were created to live an abundant life!

Is your soul healthy?

Does your inner-self prosper?

Or, are you tired, weary, and beat up?

Our physical bodies get a lot of attention: we get annual check-ups; we go to the dentist; we do Crossfit or other exercise. But, we rarely focus on our souls, on the inside us. Yet, ironically that’s where we likely need the most help.

We all have this innate sense that we are designed to be at peace and at rest on the inside. We all have this sense that we are supposed to be truly happy, fulfilled, and satisfied. And we likely all realize that we are a far cry from where we are supposed to be inside.

I want to challenge you to stop and take a look at the inside you. Speak to your soul and ask it: “How are you doing?” The Psalmist, David, took time to analyze his soul and to recognize when it needed bolstering. In Psalm 42:5, he speaks to himself saying: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

If we want to have a healthy and strong soul, it will not happen by accident…it will only happen by appointment. We need to be intentional about looking inward, assessing where we are at, and then taking steps to strengthen our souls.

Let me give you 3 simple ways to make sure your soul is “at home” and to ensure mental health challenges will not take over your life.

#1-Lift Up God's Name

Psalms 22:3 – God inhabits the praises of his people.

Do you want to encounter God and connect with Him in a real way? You will not get there without worship.

Worship is where God hangs out, you will always find God in the midst of praise. When your soul feels burned out, the road that will take you home is praise.

If you feel unable to lift up words of praise on your own, listen to worship music.

In fact, if you are in a place where you need some serious shifts in your inner peace and mental health, I recommend only listening to worship music. Be intentional about it. I guarantee that you will feel stronger internally. You will feel built up, refreshed, more alive, and encouraged. Why? Because that is where God hangs out, and He is home for your soul.

I’ve found singing with Orangeville’s Joyful Sound Gospel Choir has really been a wonderful way to sing God’s praises together with my local community. Singing with a choir could be something you too could try if you enjoy singing.

#2-Lean Into God's Love

1 John 4:19 – We love God because He first loved us.

I love the book of 1 John because it’s clear that the apostle John really understood the importance of God’s love. John also understood that he was loved by God. In fact, six times in John’s gospel, he calls himself “The disciple whom Jesus loved.” It’s like John was shamelessly flaunting the fact that he was God’s favourite.

Was he God’s favourite?

Perhaps.

But it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that John believed he was.

There is something healthy about having that kind of perspective in terms of how God sees us. If we are one of God’s children, we can each claim that we are “God’s favourite”. Some might call John’s statement about himself arrogant, but apparently, God didn’t mind it at all…it made it into His book.

John defined his identity through God’s love.

Lean into that love every day. Remind yourself how loved by God you are. If you have let sin or silence separate you from God, confess it and be done with it. Come to Him as a child and expect that, if you do, He will draw near to you. Then, your soul will truly be home.

#3 - The Essential Oil Way

In my last blog post, we talked about some simple steps to reduce inflammation and feel much better. Today, let’s talk energy. We want real, sustained, feel-amazing energy. Forking Yourself To Death [1/3] 🔥 When ‘healthy’ isn’t helping…

Let’s get one thing straight: you are not forking yourself to death because you eat cake on your birthday. You’re forking yourself to death when you hardly consider what’s on your plate—every day. For years, we’ve been trained to ask the wrong questions about food: Is it low calorie? Is it fat-free? Is it fast? But here’s a better question: Does this meal
