Have you ever got into a car accident? I have, and it was months of pain. It felt overwhelming to deal with my injured body on top of all my other responsibilities. I also felt it challenging to accept that I just couldn’t do everything like normal.
Thankfully, I now know lots of excellent ways to manage pain naturally. In today’s blog, I’m going to share simple habits and natural products which you can use for relief.
As you may know, over-the-counter options for managing pain often have really harsh side-effects and are tough on the liver and kidneys. I like having other effective options for relief which are healthier. Let’s look at some now.
Healthy Habits For Relief
There are lots of different habits which can help manage pain naturally. Of course, each person is different and each situation is different, so nothing I’m saying is medical advice, and you need to use your best judgement for your situation. That said, these have been immensely helpful to me, and so I’m excited to share these habits with you.
- Magnesium Bath – Magnesium can be very helpful for releasing tension and pressure in the muscles, and putting some magnesium in a warm bath feels incredible if you need relief. Epsom salts are high in magnesium so you can use that.
- Massage – Massage can be an excellent way to relieve tension in your muscles. Find a skilled practitioner who specializes in the type of relief you’re looking for. Getting regular massages can be thought of as a self-care practice. It’s really good for your body! You can also massage yourself with doTERRA’s AromaTouch massage oil blend.
- Hydration – It may seem odd, but keeping hydrated is absolutely essential for managing pain, which modern studies confirm. Consuming electrolytes is an excellent way to make sure your body absorbs water efficiently, so it’s not just passing through you. Many hydration / electrolyte drinks are full of unhealthy chemicals, so just make sure you get a good quality option. I use doTERRA’s Recharge (Wild Strawberry | Lemon-Lime) for electrolytes and I love it (it’s so tasty!).
- Anti-Inflammatory Diet – Pain is often caused by inflammation in the body, especially long-term, constant pain. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet will do wonders for your body. Also, make sure to get enough Omega 3 and 9 in your diet to balance inflammation.
- Exercise – Exercise is essential for managing pain. When I was finishing up my physiotherapy after my car accident, the practitioner instructed me to exercise regularly to help with the healing process. It may seem counter-intuitive, but exercise – in moderation – can be incredibly healing.
Effective Natural Products For Relief
Sometimes we just need a quick fix for fast relief. Here are some effective, natural options I use.
- Deep Blue – This is doTERRA’s signature relief product. It comes in a convenient stick, a cooling rub, and a rollerbottle. I recommend using the rollerbottle then following it up immediately with the stick for deep impact, although all the options are great. The key oil in this blend is Wintergreen, which is even effective on its own (although I recommend diluting it with a carrier oil). Wintergreen is also lovely to diffuse in a room, especially when combined with something like Wild Orange.
- SuperMint Touch – Mint essential oils are cooling and can offer excellent relief for pain and arthritis. SuperMint is doTERRA’s special blend of 4 different mints which was created for added impact. When the blend first came out, I remember somebody at convention trying it out on their arthritis and being so happy that it gave them relief. It’s also a really solid option to rub on the belly to support digestion after a heavy meal. SuperMint Touch is in a rollerbottle so it’s really easy to apply on-the-go.
- Yarrow Pom – I have a funny story with Yarrow Pom. I was using it on my hands every day to smooth my skin (since it’s known to be an excellent skin oil). And then I noticed two side benefits: One is that it got rid of the dark spots on my hand, and Two is that the joint discomfort in my thumb went away! Yarrow Pom has a powerful chemical in it called chamazulene which is really effective for relief. It’s also a powerful antioxidant, which adds to its relieving properties.
I want to note that each person is different, so sometimes one person will get excellent joint relief from Deep Blue while another person will find better relief from AromaTouch blend or a cooling mint oil. That’s all to say that it can be worth experimenting with a few different options at the beginning until you find the right natural solution for you.
