It’s important to get moving before starting Phase 2. If you use these principles of healthy digestion, you’ll likely be moving in no time.
- Ghee and Bowel Movements: This may sound uncomfortable, but taking one small spoonful of high-quality ghee may help your bowel movements become more frequent. Ghee helps lubricate tissues where toxins and fats are stored, binding to them and loosening them for elimination during the Detox Flush Phase. In fact, this is a great step to do regardless during Phase 2 if you want extra impact. Ghee is clarified butter, and it’s very popular in Indian cooking.
- Detox Flush: On Day 11, after releasing stored toxins, the body is prepared to flush them out. Support this step by taking a natural laxative 1-2 hours after an early, light dinner. Laxative options include 1 ½ cups of prune juice for sensitive digestion, or a mixture of 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt dissolved in 1 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (or 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil) for normal digestion.
- Hydration: Staying hydrated during the detox is important for keeping the bowels moving and helping to flush out released toxins.
- Supplements to help movement:
- Terrazymeâ„¢ Digestive Enzyme Complex: This blend of whole-food enzymes and mineral cofactors supports the body’s enzyme production, critical for healthy biochemical functions, including the digestion of food nutrients and cellular metabolism.
- PB Assist +® Probiotic Defense Formula: This blend of pre-biotic fiber and six probiotic strains supports healthy digestive functions and immunities. Probiotics are also great for aiding digestion and elimination.
- DigestZen® Digestive Blend: A proprietary blend of essential oils like ginger, peppermint, tarragon, fennel, caraway, coriander, and anise, DigestZen provides soothing digestive relief when used internally.
- Digestion and Energy: There are some foods which are harder to digest. Avoiding these foods temporarily can help ease digestion and increase bowel movement. Here are some foods to consider pausing.
– Everything the cleanse says to avoid, for starters (review cleanse guidelines as needed)
– Although protein rich foods are good for you in balance, they can be tough on the digestive system. You can pause meat and beans for a few days to see if this helps. There is actually protein in veggies, so you’ll still be getting some.
– Bad food combinations can increase digestive discomfort and clog movements. Some bad food combos are:Â
1. Protein and starch. Yes, meat and potatoes is a bad combo, digestively speaking. Consider having your meat with veggies in one meal and your starches with veggies in another.
2. Fruit and protein. With a few exceptions, fruit generally isn’t easy to digest when mixed with proteins.
– Cold food. When you put cold food into your body, your body has to spend a lot of energy simply warming you up and keeping you alive, so it can’t digest with full energy.Â
– Drinking while eating. When you drink while you eat, you dilute your enzymes which make digestion harder.
